The Vegan Society has unveiled a redesigned Vegan Trademark, replacing the certification mark it has used since 1990. The new design features interconnected "V" shapes that double as tick marks, and incorporates the Society's name into the design.

The redesign is timed to coincide with the EU's Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive, which takes effect on 27 September 2026. This directive will bar self-declared environmental labels that lack an independent certification system for any trader selling into the bloc.

The Vegan Society now claims to have certified over 73,000 products, up from the 70,000 figure it cited in July.

## Assurance, credibility and confidence

According to Phaedra Appleton, Head of Innovation and Development at The Vegan Society, the new design reflects the assurance, credibility, and confidence provided by the Vegan Trademark. Appleton explained that the design is intended to convey the trust and assurance consumers want when buying vegan products.

The new design is built around a series of interconnected "V" shapes that double as tick marks, and folds the Society's name into the design itself. This design is meant to provide a clear indication of the product's vegan status from the beginning of the certification process through to the final product.

The Vegan Society's new design is set to provide consumers with a clear and trustworthy indication of a product's vegan status. As the EU's Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive comes into force, the new design is likely to play an increasingly important role in the certification of vegan products.

The Vegan Society's certified product count has increased to over 73,000, up from 70,000 in July.

| Product Count | July | New Count | | --- | --- | --- | | Certified Products | 70,000 | 73,000 |
