Australian dairy-free brand BioCheese has launched a protein-fortified shredded cheddar in the country's plant-based cheese category. The Cheddar Shred with Protein is now available in Coles supermarkets and independent grocers nationally.

The product is built on a coconut oil base with 10% pea protein, giving it 10g of total protein per 100g, and is formulated to melt for uses such as toasties, tacos, and salads.

It comes in a 200g resealable bag at a recommended retail price of $9, in line with the rest of the brand's convenience range.

BioCheese was first to market in Australia's plant-based cheese category in 2014, launching with a single product in Coles. The brand, owned by My Co and produced under its MyLife business from a base in Prahran, Victoria, has since expanded to more than 15 products across major and independent retailers.

According to CEO Vicky Pappas, "Plant-based and dairy-free shouldn't mean settling for less. We wanted to prove that with our Cheddar Shred with Protein. It's the first of its kind in Australia, and we're proud to be leading the way on nutrition as well as taste."

The product's launch marks a significant milestone in the growth of BioCheese, which has established itself as a leader in the Australian plant-based cheese market.
