The world's leading non-alcoholic beverage brands are pivoting from price-led growth to value driven by health and innovation. According to the Food & Drink Report 2026 from Brand Finance, the top 50 brands in the sector now hold a combined brand value of $170.4 billion.

After two years where brands relied on price increases to navigate inflation, the basis of competition is shifting. The report states that brands are now investing in product innovation, high-protein and better-for-you formats, and broader category opportunities as consumers become more selective.

Chinese Brands Rise in Strength and Value

Chinese beverage companies are playing an increasingly prominent role. While Coca-Cola remains the most valuable non-alcoholic drinks brand with a value of $46.1 billion, its brand strength has been surpassed. Chinese bottled water and tea brand Nongfu Spring now leads the ranking for consumer trust and familiarity.

Nongfu Spring's brand value increased by 38% to $15.3 billion. It achieved a Brand Strength Index score of 89.8 out of 100. Another Chinese brand, Eastroc, saw its value surge by 62% to $5 billion as it expanded beyond energy drinks into electrolyte and functional beverages.

Growth Leaders Across Categories

Several brands recorded exceptional value growth by focusing on heritage and health. Canada Dry's brand value grew by 116% to $1.1 billion, which the report attributes to the continued relevance of heritage soft drink brands when supported by effective management.

The juice brand Innocent saw its value increase by 60% to $0.6 billion. This growth reflects the growing importance of better-for-you positioning in shaping consumer preferences.

Category Dynamics and Functional Growth

Category dynamics are reshaping where value is created. Functional drinks now represent a combined $33.4 billion in brand value. The coffee and tea category is worth $19.4 billion.

Yorkshire Tea leads the coffee and tea category on brand strength with a BSI score of 83.1. Nescafé remains the most valuable brand in that segment.

Henry Farr, Global Sector Head of Food & Drink at Brand Finance, commented on the shift. "The global food and beverage sector is changing rapidly," he said. Farr added that brands pulling ahead are using broad, flexible portfolios to capture growth and defend market share against challengers.

He warned that diversification will become even more important as trends such as GLP-1 weight-loss drugs begin to reshape consumer demand. Brands building flexibility into their portfolios now will be better positioned for future shifts.
