Plenish has launched a new protein oat drink in selected Tesco stores nationwide. The product, which carries a recommended retail price of £2.50, contains 10 grams of protein per serving and is made with just four ingredients, with no added oils or additives.

The brand, owned by Carlsberg Britvic, claims this is the only high-protein oat drink in the UK market that avoids oils and additives. This claim is based on Nielsen total coverage data for protein dairy alternatives, excluding private label products, as defined by Carlsberg Britvic. The company says the drink offers a complete amino acid profile and is designed to be used over cereal, in porridge, or blended into smoothies, rather than consumed on its own.

Product Formulation and Launch

The launch extends Plenish's Clean Protein range into a ready-to-drink liquid format. Each pack contains a total of 40 grams of protein. The product became available in Tesco on August 31 and will be sold online via plenishdrinks.com from September 7.

This marks the brand's second protein-focused launch in five months. In April, Plenish entered the protein powder category with two flavors: Madagascan Vanilla and Cocoa & Sea Salt Clean Protein Powders. Those powders, built on pea protein, each contain seven ingredients and deliver 20 grams of protein per serving.

A Shift in Oat Portfolio Strategy

Plenish has been systematically updating its oat drink lineup over the past 18 months. In March 2025, the company launched an Enriched Oat M*lk at Tesco, a three-ingredient product fortified with calcium, vitamin D, B12, riboflavin, and iodine. This was followed in October 2025 by a zero-sugar oat drink at Waitrose, which uses whole oats to avoid the enzymatic breakdown that produces sugars in most oat-based beverages.

Positioning Against Processed Options

Company executives position the new drink as a direct response to consumer demand for simpler ingredients. Russell Goldman, Managing Director of Breakthrough Brands at Carlsberg Britvic, stated that consumers want easy ways to add protein without altering their routines. He argued that many convenient protein options contain additives and unnecessarily processed ingredients.

"We saw an opportunity to offer something that supports consumers with an easy way to top up their daily protein, while staying true to our mission of ingredient transparency and great tasting products," Goldman said. The launch highlights a broader trend where brands are competing on ingredient purity and minimal processing.
